Biography

Steve Tomlin graduated from Nottingham University in 1988 and has developed his career in several hospitals based in London. He specialised after a few years in general practice in the field of paediatrics and has continued with that specialisation ever since. He become the first paediatric pharmacist to take a position in a Strategic Health Authority accredited Consultant Pharmacist post for the Guys & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, leading a team of dedicated paediatric pharmacists and technical staff. A significant part of his job has been to lead on the production of the Guy’s, St Thomas’, King’s and Lewisham Paediatric Formulary.

• Professional Secretary of the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group (NPPG).

• Chairman of the Faculty of Paediatric and Neonatal Pharmacy (College of Pharmacy Practice).

• Governor of the College of Pharmacy Practice

• Lead clinical pharmacist for the Local research Network under the Medicines for Children’s Research Network.

• Sat on Medicines Committees for the Government Documents of the National Service Frameworks FOR Children and Young People.

• Clinical Pharmacy Advisor to the Department of Health for the provision of antivirals in a flu pandemic

• Branch Speaker of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain

• External Assessor for the Health Service Ombudman

• Advised the Department of Health on e-Prescribing with Connecting for Health

• Working with Skills for Health on projects affecting competence of practice with children

• Sat on the Paediatric sub group of the Advisory Board for Anti-microbial Resistance

• Paediatric Pharmacy advisor for several technology appraisals and clinical guidelines productions for the National Institute of Clinical Excellence.

Academic Activities (summary)

• At London University School of Pharmacy he has been a personal tutor to students undertaking the clinical diploma for 10 years. He has been a paediatric module leader for the past 16 years on the clinical diploma course and advanced paediatric course. I hold an.
