Preferred Entry Requirements
Entrants must have three A levels (A2) that include Chemistry together with at least one other science subject (e.g. Biology, Physics or Maths). Guidance on our admissions policy can be found here.
Standard Offer
The standard offer for entry is ABB. Those students taking resit A levels may be asked for AAB. Each application is considered individually. Therefore the offer you receive may be different, depending on your background and other qualifications.
Other British Qualifications
Examples of other British qualifications which are accepted by the School instead of A levels are:
- Scottish Highers, preferably supplemented by Advanced Higher in Chemistry
- HND or HNC in a chemistry subject with distinctions and merits
- first degree in Chemistry or a related subject with an upper second class or higher (please see ELQ notes here)
- nursing qualification supplemented by a Foundation Course or two A levels including Chemistry
- Open University course “Discovering Science” (S103), with additional Chemistry (either at A level or 60 OU credits at Level 2)
- accredited Science Foundation or Access Course, with marks of 70% or above accepted where offered as a refresher post A level or to supplement secondary school qualifications gained abroad.
European Qualifications
We accept many European qualifications, such as:
- Irish Leaving Certificate
- French Baccalauréat
- German Abitur
- Greek or Cypriot Apolytirion plus an appropriate Foundation Course
- Norwegian Vitnemål
- European Baccalaureate
Other Overseas Qualifications
The School accepts overseas qualifications provided they are equivalent in standard and depth to A levels. Chemistry and other science subjects should be taken at a higher, rather than subsidiary, level. Among others, we will accept:
- International Baccalaureate (minimum 34 points with 6,5,5 in Higher Level including Chemistry and a second science subject i.e biological science, Math or Physics)
- Cambridge AICE
- Malaysian STPM or PRIME Associate Diploma or University Science Matriculation
- Singapore Polytechnic or Ngee Ann Polytechnic Diploma in Biotechnology
- A levels or HSC Principal levels from Commonwealth countries
- at least 30 semester credits from a USA or Canadian college or university
- OACs from Ontario, Canada or high grades in Year 12 for students leaving Canadian High Schools [more...]
- various Australian Leaving and Matriculation Certificates
- A pre-pharmacy programme with a GPA of 3.0 from the USA or at least one year of university study with courses taken in Chemistry, Biology, Maths and a GPA of 3.0
- Bagrut from Israel
- Turkish Devlet Lise Dimplomasi with an appropriate Foundation Course
English Language Proficiency
All students whose first language is not English must demonstrate adequate proficiency in the English language. The School prefers 6.5 in the IELTS exam but will also accept 580 in TOEFL (237 on computer-based TOEFL or 92 on the internet based test) with 4 in TWE.
