Written by Dr Jennifer Newbould and Professor David Taylor of the School’s Department of Practice and Policy, it emphasises the potential for community pharmacy to play an extended role in delivering clinical and allied services in today’s NHS, and the importance of closer collaborative working between GPs and community pharmacists.
The report highlights the benefits of ensuring that pharmacists have appropriate read/write access to electronic care records, and calls for a Community Pharmacists’ Charter (comparable to the Doctors’ Charter of the 1960s which radically developed GP care) to provide stronger incentives for effective service development.
